After just a few weeks of chaos under Trump 2.0—including his and Musk’s attack on our democracy—many in the Democrats of Greater Riverside are asking, “What can we do now?”
The answer: Take action. Staying informed is important, but real change happens when we organize, speak out, and support each other. Whether it’s making calls, showing up to local events, or spreading awareness, every effort counts.
Here’s an updated list of ways you can make a difference. Let’s stand together and fight for our democracy! (Updated 2/7/2025)

CALL or WRITE OUR SENATORS
Tell your Democratic senators to stall Trump’s agenda by demanding quorum calls and blocking unanimous consent. The Senate needs 51 members to operate—without them, nothing moves. By forcing votes and debates on everything, Democrats can slow things down and stop quick approvals, especially for judges. No more easy passes—make every vote count!

If one office doesn’t pick up, try another—it doesn’t matter which one. Calls are tracked by zip code and issue, so stick to one topic per call. Voicemails count just as much as talking to a person. Every call gets reported to the D.C. office daily!
CALL or WRITE YOUR HOUSE MEMBERS
Urge Democratic House members to vote against all Republican initiatives. Our tiny margin gives Democrats enormous power, if they stick together. Make sure your Democratic representatives know you’re counting on them to do so.
Speak up, even if your rep isn’t from your party! They work for you and have to listen to all constituents. When enough people push back, they pay attention. Your calls and messages create pressure and show they can’t ignore the other side. Change won’t happen if you stay quiet—make them hear you!

Stay local. Get together.
Get involved with others in the Riverside area to push for progress! Local and state governments have real power, and we can make a difference right here. Join groups working to move Riverside and California forward instead of letting the federal government drag us backward. Speak up, organize, fundraise, and support progressive leaders who will fight for our future!

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS ON IMMIGRATION
Riverside County is within 100 miles of the southern border, meaning immigration enforcement is stronger here with ICE, CBP, and BP having more power. With Trump’s focus on mass deportations, it’s more important than ever for our community to know their rights and how to handle encounters with immigration authorities. Here is important information from the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice:

It’s easy to get wrapped up in what Trump and Musk are doing, but don’t let it take over your life. Make time for yourself—read a good book, watch a show, hang out with friends, laugh, and get some exercise.
We need to stay strong, both mentally and physically. Lean on the people who matter to you, and be there for them too.
We’ll get through this together—with confidence, courage, and persistence.
