Last week, the federal government took a dangerous and deeply regressive step with Executive Order 14168, a sweeping attack on transgender rights and gender equality masquerading as “defending women.”
Let’s be clear: this order isn’t about protecting anyone. It’s about erasing people.
Under the false guise of “restoring biological truth,” EO 14168 bans federal agencies from recognizing gender identity, revokes protections for transgender people, eliminates inclusive language, and strips funding for gender-affirming care. It even goes as far as mandating that federal documents, facilities, and services reflect only “biological sex at birth”—a cruel and calculated rejection of trans people’s humanity.
This order turns back decades of progress. It:
Erases trans people from IDs, legal protections, and healthcare systems
Denies access to gender-affirming care, even for trans youth and veterans
Bans trans women from using women’s shelters, restrooms, or prisons
Undermines civil rights rulings like Bostock v. Clayton County
Targets federal employees and students, silencing inclusive education and workplaces
Let’s call this what it is: government-sanctioned discrimination.
As Democrats, we reject the fearmongering and pseudoscience behind this policy. DGR proudly stands with our transgender and nonbinary neighbors, friends, and family. We believe in a future where everyone—everyone—is seen, protected, and affirmed.
